What is a CSA?

CSA is shorthand for Community Supported Agriculture. When you sign-up for CSA, you become a member of our farm. Members pay up-front to buy shares of the season’s harvest. This up-front payment helps farmers buy seeds, compost, amendments, and other essentials to get the season going. In return we commit to working hard to grow beautiful, delicious, diverse seasonal produce for you using organic practices that increase biodiversity and preserve soil health. Our 18 week CSA runs from June 15 to October 19 with options for weekly or every other pick-up. Each box will contain 7-9 items of produce. As a member you share in the benefits of our bounty, but you also share in the risks associated with farming (more on this below in “What to Expect”). Joining a CSA allows you to know your food and to know your farmer. We look forward to the relationships we hope to build with you! If you’re looking to eat locally, experience seasonal produce, or join the farming community, a CSA is right up your alley! This CSA is particularly special because it’s our first season growing for our community! When we look back on Wild Plate Farm history, we will remember you all as the folks who dared to join us on this adventure and enabled us to live out our dream.

How it Works:

  1. Choose your CSA option

We offer two CSA options!

The Full Plate offers farm fresh produce for weekly pick-up for 18 weeks from June 15 - October 19.

The Half Plate offers farm fresh produce for pick-up every other week for a total of 9 weeks. Group A will pick up every other week from June 15 - October 12, and Group B will pick up every other week from June 22 - October 19. We will let you know which pick-up group you are in after all sign-ups are finalized!

Think about your upcoming summer and what kind of a commitment you’re up for. If you have friends who’d be interested in splitting an option with you, feel free! You could split the items in each box you get, or alternate each pick-up.

Note: there is NO CSA Sunday August 31st (Labor Day Weekend)

2. Choose your pick-up site

We are so excited to partner with The Growler Guys! Wild Plate Farm members who pick-up their CSA veggies from The Growler Guys can get 10% off of a growler fill at pick-up. They’ve got an incredible selection of beer, cider, kombucha, CBD, seltzer, and mead on tap from local breweries!

If you have a group coming from the same area for pick-ups and you’d like to send a rotating representative from your area to pick-up everyone’s bag, that works with us! What a fun way to connect with your neighbors as well :)

3. Make the commitment, join the community, & get ready for GREAT produce

After purchasing your CSA, you hand us the baton. We get to work planting, cultivating, & growing delicious, nutrient rich produce for you. We’ve got fun varieties coming your way like Badger Flame Beets, Patty Pan Zucchini, and Purple Kohlrabi as well as comfort staples like Manny Cucumbers, Cherry Tomatoes, Curly Kale and SO MUCH more (seriously, we have >40 different crops in our crop plan this year)

Joining a CSA is a commitment! We take growing seriously, and we need you to bring the same level of commitment. Please understand that when you sign-up for our CSA, there are no take-backs! You are joining us for the whole season, and we want it to be a great one! Your up-front payment funds the majority of our operations for the year, and therefore we cannot offer refunds. Can’t pick-up a box for the week? Let us know and we can donate it to the local food bank! Or you could sell/gift it to a friend who’s in town and can pick it up!

Join the community by following us on Instagram @wildplatefarm! In addition to fun updates and beautiful pictures, we will post updates about the CSA here. Each week we’ll post what’s inside the upcoming veggie box before Sunday pick-up, so you can plan for your meals. We also encourage members to come out and visit the farm. We are super passionate about connecting people to how their food is grown, and we’d love to show you around. We believe connection to food is powerful, and it may change your perspective! We need to be there when you come to see the farm, so please set up a time by giving us a text, call, or email.

What to Expect:

In many ways farming is unpredictable, so be prepared to expect the unexpected! For example: If the soil temp is just right for beets & turnips, expect a bounty of them in your box! If April is unusually wet or cold and we can’t get into the ground until mid May, we might have to push back the first pick-up date for the CSA. If forest fires cause intense smoke in August and we can’t work, there might be a week that is skipped. That being said, we want you to have an awesome CSA experience. We love growing food & are committed to providing you as much consistency as possible, but supporting local farms is an inherently different experience than the comforts of the grocery store, and some things are out of our control. We’ve built resiliency into our crop plan by including a diverse range of varieties that thrive in different conditions. We also commit to communicating clearly if things aren’t going as planned.
